Overview
Damen Workboats, a leading division within the Damen Shipyards Group, designs, builds and maintains workboats for maritime applications. We offer an open and informal culture with short communication lines, a dynamic and collaborative work environment, and opportunities for growth.
The Role
The Manager Engineering is responsible for leading and optimizing the engineering processes within the Workboats division. You will manage a team of 7 to 8 technical managers, each leading a team of shipbuilders, mechanical and electrical engineers. This role involves strategic planning, project execution, innovation, stakeholder management, and people management within the Gorinchem office and across our four yards. The Manager Engineering contributes to the overall engineering strategy and provides expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Key accountabilities
- Engineering Strategy & Policy: Contribute to the development and implementation of the Engineering strategy and policies aligned with Damen’s business strategy.
- Planning & Budgeting: Develop and manage the Engineering plan and budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Engineering Leadership: Ensure effective engineering processes that meet internal and external demands, in compliance with HSSEQ standards.
- Expert Advice: Provide strategic engineering advice to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Innovation: Identify and implement new technological innovations and trends within the division.
- Organizational Development: Continuously improve work processes, systems, and knowledge management within the division.
- Project Execution: Oversee project execution, capacity planning, and participate in cross-organizational initiatives.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic objectives.
- People Management: Lead, coach, and develop employees to ensure optimal team performance and engagement.
Skills & experience
- Education: HBO degree in shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience leading teams in a manufacturing or project-driven environment with knowledge of shipbuilding and/or mechanical engineering processes and Systems Engineering; familiarity with Agile/Scrum/iPMA is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Experience with PLM/PDM approaches to product development and engineering, including change projects.
- Personal Traits: Driven, ambitious, proactive, and a confident communicator who thrives in an international and dynamic environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written skills in Dutch and English.
